Fundamental immunology research
I received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Oxford studying the role of Th17 cells in transplantation biology. This research work was carried out under the supervision of Herman Waldmann and Stephen Cobbold at Sir William Dunn School of Pathology. My immunology research experience stimulated my interest in ocular inflammation.
Translational research
I am the chief investigator for the IMPROVE study which aims to identify biomarkers associated with response to systemic immunosuppression in non-infectious uveitis. The ultimate goal is to develop a predictive blood test able to allow tailored treatment decisions. Competitive funding has been awarded by Manchester Academic Health Science Centre for this research project which is a collaboration with the Lydia Becker Institute of Immunology and Inflammation.
Clinical trials
I am a principal investigator (PI) for the Birdshot-ABC research study and a sub-investigator in an interventional trial in non-infectious uveitis at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. While at Oxford Eye Hospital,
I was interim PI for the UNICORNS paediatric uveitis study and a sub-investigator for the ASTUTE trial
in non-infectious uveitis. Additionally, I previously worked as a sub-investigator in pharmaceutical trials in retinal vein occlusions and age-related macular degeneration.
